  • 7 slices bread, buttered
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. milk
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper
  • dash of red pepper (cayenne)
  • 3/4 lb. Longhorn cheese, grated
  • cubes of ham, chipped ham or 2 pkg. smoked dried beef

Directions

    Butter bread and cut in 1-inch cubes; place in a 9 x 13-inch dish with buttered sides up.

    Beat eggs with milk and seasoning. Pour over bread, then put ham on top and cheese as final layer. Cover with tinfoil and bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours.

    Can be prepared 24 hours ahead of time and kept in refrigerator until time to be baked.
