Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. margarine (2 sticks)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. almond extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 egg yolk (save egg white for top)
  • 24 whole almonds

Directions

    Mix all ingredients thoroughly except almonds and egg white. Pat dough firmly into 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Brush with unbeaten egg white.

    Lightly score the top into 24 bars.

    Place an almond in center of each bar.

    Bake until golden brown in a 350° oven for 20 to 25 minutes.

    Cool and cut.
