  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 or 3 Tbsp. warm water
  • 5 c. plain flour
  • 3 to 5 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water. Sift flour and dry ingredients together. Cut in (blend) shortening. Stir in yeast mixture and buttermilk.

    Roll out on floured board and cut into biscuits. Let rise. Place on a greased pan and bake at 400° for 10 to 20 minutes.
