  • 5 c. self-rising flour (sift flour before measuring)
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 2 pkg. dried yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water

    Sift together flour, sugar and soda; chop in shortening.

    Add butter and dissolved yeast.

    Keep covered in refrigerator at least 1 or 2 hours (better overnight) before using.
