- 1 cake yeast
- 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water
- 5 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

2Into a bowl sift flour with other dry ingredients.

3Cut in shortening.

4Add buttermilk, then yeast mixture.

5Stir until all flour is dampened.

6Knead on floured board for a minute or two.

7Roll out to desired thickness (1/2 to 3/4 inch) and cut with a biscuit cutter.

8Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
