- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 4 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- pinch of sugar
Directions

1Preheat oven to 400°.

2Dissolve yeast in warm water to which a pinch of sugar has been added.

3Set aside.

4Combine all flour, soda, salt and sugar.

5Cut in shortening.

6Add yeast and buttermilk.

7Knead enough to hold together.

8Roll out 1/2 inch thick and cut.

9Bake 15 to 20 minutes.

10Yields 2 dozen.
