- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. very warm water
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. Crisco shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. melted butter
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. Sift dry ingredients together and add yeast.

2Cut in shortening and then add buttermilk.

3Turn out dough onto a floured board and knead for 1 or 2 minutes.

4Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thick and cut into biscuits.

5Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet, let rise 10 to 15 minutes, then brush with butter and bake in a 400° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.

6Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
