- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 1/2 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/8 c. sugar
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
Directions

1Let yeast dissolve in water and set aside.

2Mix all dry ingredients as listed together.

3Cut shortening into dry mixture as you do for pie dough.

4Stir in the buttermilk and yeast mixture.

5Thoroughly blend.

6The dough can be refrigerated or can be kneaded lightly.

7After removing the dough from the refrigerator, it should be allowed to sit at room temperature to allow it to rise.

8Roll out on floured board and cut biscuits with biscuit cutter.

9Place in a greased pan and allow the dough to rise a little before baking.

10Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes. Dough can be kept in refrigerator for several days.
