- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 or 3 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 3 to 5 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- melted butter for top of biscuits
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Sift together flour, sugar, soda, baking powder and salt.

3Cut in shortening.

4Stir in yeast and buttermilk.

5Roll out on floured surface; cut and brush tops with melted butter.

6Bake at 400° for 10 to 20 minutes according to size.

7Yields about 4 dozen.
