- 5 c. self-rising flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 c. Crisco
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Sift all dry ingredients into a large bowl.

3Cut in shortening.

4Add buttermilk, then yeast.

5Stir until thoroughly moistened.

6Turn onto floured board and knead a minute or two.

7Roll out to desired thickness and cut into rounds. Brush with melted butter and bake on ungreased pan at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes, or lightly browned.
