Ingredients

  • 5 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water.

    Sift all dry ingredients into a large bowl.

    Cut in shortening.

    Add buttermilk, then yeast.

    Stir until thoroughly moistened.

    Turn onto floured board and knead a minute or two.

    Roll out to desired thickness and cut into rounds. Brush with melted butter and bake on ungreased pan at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes, or lightly browned.
