- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 Tbsp. warm water (105~ to 115~)
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in water.

2Sift together dry ingredients; cut in shortening with pastry blender.

3Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to dry ingredients.

4Turn dough out onto floured surface and knead lightly.

5Refrigerate dough until needed.

6Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut into rounds with a 2-inch biscuit cutter.

7Fold in half, as for pocketbook rolls, if desired.

8Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet at 400° for 20 minutes.

9Yield: About 3 dozen.
