- 1 pkg. dry yeast or 1 cake
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 5 c. sifted flour (plain)
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Sift all dry ingredients together a couple of times in large bowl.

3Cut in shortening.

4Add buttermilk and yeast mixture; work dough only until well moistened.

5Cover and refrigerate to use as needed.

6Bake in a 400° oven until nicely browned, about 12 minutes.

7Keeps for a full week in refrigerator.
