- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. flour
- 3 to 5 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and soda together.

3Cut in shortening.

4Stir in yeast mixture and buttermilk.

5Add extra flour to knead dough.

6Roll out on floured board; cut into biscuits.

7Brush with melted butter, if desired.

8Bake at 400° for 10 to 20 minutes or until brown.

9Dough will keep in refrigerator for several days.

10Always allow biscuits to rise before baking.
