- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 5 c. flour
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Combine flour, soda, baking powder, salt and sugar.

2Cut in shortening until size of a pea.

3Add buttermilk; add yeast dissolved in lukewarm water.

4Stir in flour until dampened.

5Knead 8 to 10 times on floured surface.

6Roll out and cut into biscuits. By leaving space between them, they will brown better.

7Brush with butter.

8Let rise approximately 1 hour.

9Bake at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes.

10Dough can be stored in tightly covered bowl in refrigerator for 2 weeks.

11Yield: 50 biscuits.
