- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. very warm water
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. vegetable shortening
- melted butter
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry blender.

3Add buttermilk and yeast mixture; stir until thoroughly moistened. Turn dough out onto floured board and knead 1 or 2 minutes.

4(No rising is required.)

5Roll dough out to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter.

6Place on ungreased baking sheet; brush with melted butter and bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
