- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water
- 5 c. all purpose flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

2Sift together dry ingredients.

3Cut in shortening.

4Add yeast and buttermilk to the sifted dry ingredients.

5Knead dough enough to hold together. Roll dough out to 1/2 inch thickness.

6Cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter and fold in half as a pocket book.

7Let biscuits rise for 2 hours if they are left out after the dough is made, 3 hours if they are refrigerated first.

8Brush with melted butter or margarine and bake at 400° for approximately 20 minutes.
