- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

2Let stand 5 minutes.

3Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and sugar together.

4Add shortening and cut in with pastry blender.

5Add yeast to buttermilk.

6Add to flour mixture slowly, stirring in with a fork. Turn dough out onto lightly floured board; knead several times. Roll 1/2-inch thick.

7Cut with biscuit cutter and place on ungreased baking sheet.

8Bake at 450°

9for 10 to 12 minutes. Yields 2 dozen.
