Ingredients
- 5 c. flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. butter or shortening
- 1 Tbsp. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Mix dry ingredients together and cut in shortening or butter until crumbly.

2In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add yeast and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix lightly but thoroughly.

3Cover tightly with plastic; the dough will keep in the refrigerator for a week.

4Punch it down occasionally.

5When you are ready to bake, preheat oven to 400°.

6Roll out dough on a floured board to about 1/8-inch thickness and cut into 2-inch squares or use a cutter to make rounds.

7Brush the top with melted butter if desired.

8Bake on ungreased baking sheet for 15 to 17 minutes.
