Ingredients

  • 3 c. plain sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. strained grapefruit juice
  • 1/4 c. undiluted evaporated milk

Directions

    Sift flour, salt, sugar, baking soda and baking powder together.

    Cut or rub in shortening until well blended.

    Mix grapefruit juice and milk.

    Add to dry ingredients, adding just enough to make dough soft and not sticky.

    Turn dough onto lightly floured board.

    Knead a few strokes.

    Pat to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into small biscuits.

    Heat oven to 475° and bake 15 minutes. Serve with butter and orange marmalade.
