- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 tsp. red food coloring
- 4 to 5 apples
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1Boil sugar, water and red food coloring to a syrup, about 5 minutes.

2Peel and thinly slice apples; place in a greased 8 x 12-inch pan.

3Pour syrup over apples.

4Mix flour, baking powder and salt.

5Cut in shortening; stir in milk.

6Drop 12 spoonfuls of dough on top of apples.

7Make a dent in the middle of each.

8Mix the melted butter, 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon; add to the dents.

9Bake at 450° for 25 to 30 minutes.
