  • 6 baking apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 3/4 c. flour
  • pinch of salt (only if using plain flour)
  • 3/4 stick margarine

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    Butter a shallow baking dish.

    Combine apples, 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice in baking dish.

    In medium size bowl cut margarine into flour until crumbly. Stir in remaining 1 cup sugar.

    Sprinkle this flour mixture evenly over the apples in baking dish.

    Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes or until brown and bubbly and apples tender.
