  • 2 lb. or 6 c. tart green apples (Granny Smith), peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 c. raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. oatmeal
  • 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. butter, chilled
  • vanilla ice cream or yogurt (optional)

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    Place apples in shallow 1-quart casserole or baking dish.

    Add raisins.

    Sprinkle evenly over the apples.

    Mix dry ingredients and cut in butter.

    Mixture should be coarse and crumbly.
