- 2 to 2 1/2 lb. tart apples (about 6 to 7 large), peeled, cored and sliced
- 1/3 c. water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 2 c. flour
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp. margarine
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Grease an 8-inch spring-form pan with margarine.

3In a large pot (or microwave), cook apple slices with water and 1/4 cup sugar until apples are just tender. Drain.

4In a small bowl, mix flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder and spices. With a pastry blender, cut in 1/2 cup margarine.

5Reserve 1 cup of flour mixture for the topping. Cut egg into remainder and press into bottom and sides of pan. Spoon drained apples into pan. Bake for 1 hour or until crust is golden brown.
