  • 8 apples (cooking apples or Yellow Delicious)
  • 1/2 to 1 lemon, sliced thin
  • sugar to taste (at least 1/4 c.)
  • 3/4 c. water

Directions

    Peel the apples.

    Slice into eighths and remove core.
  3. 3
    Place thin lemon slices on top of apples.
  4. 4
    Sprinkle sugar evenly over all.

    Add water.

    Cover and cook on medium until barely tender. Uncover to finish cooking and thicken syrup a little, adding more sugar if desired.

    Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to pan and to cook uniformly.

    Some or all of syrup will be absorbed as apples cool.

    Good warm or cold.
