Ingredients
- 2 round c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 c. soft shortening
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 c. water
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- pared and quartered apples
- cinnamon to taste
Directions

1Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

2Work in shortening with fingers.

3Add milk gradually.

4Roll out dough on floured board.

5Cut into squares and place pared and quartered apples on each.

6Sprinkle with cinnamon.

7Pinch edges of dough together to form dumplings.

8Place in baking dish.

9Cover all with syrup made from sugar, water and butter simmered together.

10Bake for 30 minutes in moderate 350° oven.

11Baste dumplings during baking.
