Ingredients
- 2 c. plain flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. milk
- 8 baking apples, pared and cored
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 6 to 10 drops red food coloring (optional)
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
Directions

1Mix flour, baking powder, salt, shortening and milk to make crust and roll out in small amounts.

2Pare and core apples.

3Place apple on crust.

4In apple center, sprinkle sugar, cinnamon and a dot of butter.

5Mold crust around apple.

6Combine sugar, water, cinnamon, food coloring and margarine; bring to boiling.

7Pour over apple dumplings which have been placed 1 inch apart in ungreased baking dish.

8Sprinkle with sugar, if desired.

9Bake at 375° about 45 minutes or until apples are done.

10They may be basted occasionally.

11Serve warm with cream, ice cream or whipped topping.
