Ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- whole apples, pared, cored and pitted
- nutmeg, sugar and cinnamon to taste
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 3/4 to 1 c. milk (or 1/2 water, 1/2 milk)
- grated cheese
- butter
Directions

1Mix flour, baking powder and salt; sift twice.

2Work in shortening with fingertips or pastry mixer.

3Add liquid gradually, mixing with knife to make a soft dough.

4Toss on floured board, pat down or knead a few minutes and roll lightly 3/4-inch thick. Shape with biscuit cutter.

5Roll or pat mixture until 1/4-inch thick.

6Cut into 4-inch squares.

7Fill fruit with sugar mixed with cinnamon and nutmeg.

8Sprinkle with grated cheese or dot over with butter.

9Draw 4 corners of dough together on top of fruit.

10Pinch edges together.

11Prick with fork and bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
