- Dumplings
- 6 medium apples
- 2 cups flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup milk
- Sauce
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup butter
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375F degrees.

2Peel and core apples.

3Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.

4Cut in shortening until crumbs are size of small peas.

5Sprinkle milk over mixture, and press crumbs together lightly, working dough only enough to hold it together.

6Roll dough as for pastry, and cut into 6 squares.

7Place an apple on each square and fold pastry to surround apple.

8Place in a casserole dish.

9Combine brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan.

10Cook for 5 minutes then remove from heat.

11add butter and stir.

12Pour sauce over dumplings.

13Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, brush pastry with sauce twice during baking.
