- 3/8 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 stick butter, cut into bits and softened
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 4 apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (one lemon)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
