  • 3 to 4 c. sliced apples
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. each cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/3 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • whipped cream (if desired)

Directions

    Fill a 1 1/2-quart Pyrex dish with apples.

    Sprinkle on brown sugar and spices. Bake at 375° for 30 minutes or until apples are soft. Cream the butter.

    Gradually add sugar and beat until fluffy.

    Add egg and beat well.

    Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.

    Beat until smooth.

    Spread on cooked apples. Bake 25 to 30 minutes. Serve with cream while warm.
