  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 34 cup Golden Crisco Shortening
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 12 teaspoons vinegar
  • 13 cup brown sugar
  • 13 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 14 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon Golden Crisco Shortening
  • 6 cups tart apples, slices or 5 cups apples, chopped in 1/2 inch pieces
  • 4 tablespoons apple juice or 4 tablespoons water
  • 23 cup flour
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 14 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 14 cup butter

Directions

  1. 1
Crust: Combine flour, sugar and salt in bowl, cut in shortening using a pastry blender until all flour is blended into pea size chunks.
  2. 2
Combine water, egg and vinegar, pour into flour mixture and mix lightly with a fork until dough forms a ball.
  3. 3
This can also be done in the food processor, I find it easier that way.
  4. 4
Take 3/4 of dough for bottom crust and flatten into a pancake size wrap in clear wrap and refrigerate, use the rest for tarts or something.
  5. 5
While dough is chilling make filling.
  6. 6
Filling: Combine brown sugar, sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, cornstarch and nutmeg if using and cut in 1 tablespoon of Golden Crisco until crumbs form; toss apples with crumb mixture.
  7. 7
Roll out pastry to fit 9 inch or 9 1/2 inch pie pan and pour apple mixture into it.
  8. 8
    Sprinkle apple juice over apples.
  9. 9
Topping: Combine in food processor or by hand all topping ingredients and sprinkle over apples.
  10. 10
Bake on bottom shelf of oven at 375F for 35-40 minutes, (I did mine for 40 minutes)
