- 6 c. sliced tart apples (about 2 lb.)
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1/4 c. packed light brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg or cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. grated lemon rind
- 2 tsp. lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp. margarine or butter
Directions

1Lightly mix apples, sugars, flour, salt, nutmeg, lemon rind and lemon juice.

2Put in pie shell, laying apples flat.

3Dot with butter.

4Add top crust.

5Slit top crust to allow steam to escape. Moisten edges of crust well with cold water.

6With fingers or fork, pinch crusts together to make tight seal.

7Bake in preheated hot oven at 450° for 15 minutes, then at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
