- 5 to 6 c. tart apples
- 1 c. sugar (part brown)
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- lemon juice (optional)
Directions

1Pare apples; slice into bowl.

2Mix spices and sugar.

3Combine with sliced apples.

4Add lemon juice if apples are not tart enough.

5Arrange in unbaked 9-inch pie shell.

6Put on top crust; seal around edge and either prick with fork or cut design with sharp knife in top crust, to allow steam to escape.

7Preheat oven to 450°.

8Bake pie for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350° and bake 30 minutes longer, or until crust is brown.
