Applesauce Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour (take out 1/4 c. and lay aside on wax paper)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. water (boiled)
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 c. raisins, cut up

Directions

    Beat shortening with sugar; add eggs.

    Sift and mix all dry ingredients except soda, together, then add 1/2 cup water to the soda and add to the rest of the ingredients.

    Next put in the applesauce.

    Mix all ingredients well in the mixer.

    With the rest of the flour put aside, roll the nuts and raisins through it really well.

    This keeps the nuts and raisins from sinking to the bottom of the cake.
