- 5 c. sliced, pared tart apples
- 1 c. brown sugar (packed)
- 1/4 c. water
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/4 c. flour
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- pastry for double crust
Directions

1Mix apples, brown sugar, water and lemon juice in saucepan. Cover and cook slowly until apples are just tender, 7 to 8 minutes.

2Blend flour and granulated sugar.

3Add to apples.

4Cook, uncovered, stirring, until syrup thickens (about 2 minutes). Remove from heat, add vanilla, salt and butter.

5Cool.

6Pour apples into pastry lined pie pan; cover with top crust, which has slits cut in it.

7Seal and flute.

8Bake at 425° for 40 to 45 minutes or until crust is nicely browned.
