  • 1 cake compressed yeast or 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 3/4 c. scalded milk
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3 to 3 1/2 c. sifted enriched flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 c. Quaker or Mother's Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
  • 1 12 oz. pkg. dried apricots
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
