- 2 (15 oz.) cans asparagus spears
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. milk
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 (3 oz.) cans mushroom stems and pieces, drained
- 2 Tbsp. fine, dry breadcrumbs
Directions

1Drain asparagus, reserving 1 cup liquid; set aside.

2Melt butter in heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth.

3Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.

4Gradually add 1 cup asparagus liquid and milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly.

5Stir in salt and pepper.
