  • 2 lb. beans, dry soldier beans or any preference
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1/2 lb. salt pork
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. maple syrup
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 2 to 3 small onions, chopped

    Cover beans with cold water overnight.

    Drain and rinse. Cover with cold water, add 1 teaspoon baking soda.

    Bring to a boil and simmer 1 hour (test for doneness by blowing on a spoonful, they should split).

    Drain, but save cooking water.
