- 1 lb. dry navy beans
- 8 c. water
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1 c. cooked ham, cubed
- 1 large onion, chopped
Directions

1Soak dry beans using 8 cups water.

2Add the 1/2 teaspoon salt. Bring to boiling, reduce heat.

3Cover and simmer until beans are tender, about 1 hour.

4Drain, reserving bean liquid.

5Combine molasses, brown sugar, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Stir in 2 cups of the reserved bean liquid.

6In a 2-quart bean pot or casserole, combine cooked beans, ham, onion and molasses mixture.

7Cover and bake at 300° for 3 1/2 hours.

8Stir beans occasionally.

9Stir in a little of the reserved liquid or water for moistness if necessary.
