Ingredients

  • 4 (16 oz.) cans pork and beans
  • 3/4 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. hot sausage
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 3/4 c. barbecue sauce
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 tsp. crushed dried mint
  • 1 Tbsp. Lea & Perrins
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 to 3 dashes Louisiana hot sauce
  • 3/4 c. molasses or honey
  • 8 to 10 slices crisp bacon
  • 1/2 tsp. Bitters (peephund or Angostura bark)
  • 1 tsp. liquid smoke

Directions

    Cook beef and sausage until well done, making a fine texture with fork while cooking.

    Drain off fat.

    Cook bacon crisp and crush over meats.

    Open beans and drain off juice.

    Mix beans, meats and all other ingredients together.

    Bake in ovenproof bowl at 350° for 45 minutes.
