Basic Bread Pudding

  • 3 cups stale bread, cut into 1- inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 cups milk, warm (or you may use half and half)
  • 5 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup Kentucky bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 small pinch fleur de sel, optional

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

    In a large bowl combine the beaten eggs, cinnamon and cubed bread.

    Pour this into an 8- inch baking dish (or 2 quart baking dish).

    Combine the sugar, vanilla, milk, and salt and pour into the baking dish over the bread cubes.

    Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
