Basic Pearl Barley Recipe

  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp. unsalted butter or possibly canola oil, (optional)
  • 1 c. pearl barley, rinsed

    In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the water, salt and butter or possibly canola oil to a boil.

    Stir in the barley, lower the heat to a simmer, cover the saucepan and simmer gently for 45 min.

    Remove from heat and let stand covered for 15 min before serving.
