Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3 1/2 c. cubed round steak
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. thyme
  • 2 (14 1/2 oz.) cans Swanson beef broth
  • 1 c. Burgundy wine
  • 1/2 lb. sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 12 small canned onions

Directions

    Melt shortening and brown meat.

    Stir in flour, salt, thyme and pepper, scraping well.

    Place all in 2-quart casserole dish.

    Pour in 1 can of broth.

    Bake 2 hours in 325° oven.

    Add mushrooms, onions, 1 can broth and 1/2 cup of wine.

    Bake 1 1/2 hours more until tender.
