- 2 lb. beef chuck, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes
- 2 Tbsp. Crisco
- 4 c. boiling water
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 6 carrots
- 1 tsp. salt
- potatoes and onions (as desired)
Directions

1Thoroughly brown meat in hot Crisco; add water, lemon, Worcestershire, sliced onions, bay leaves and seasonings.

2Cover; simmer 2 hours or until meat is tender.

3Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

4Remove bay leaves.

5Add vegetables; cover and cook 30 minutes or until done.
