Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef chuck, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes
  • 2 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 4 c. boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 6 carrots
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • potatoes and onions (as desired)

Directions

    Thoroughly brown meat in hot Crisco; add water, lemon, Worcestershire, sliced onions, bay leaves and seasonings.

    Cover; simmer 2 hours or until meat is tender.

    Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

    Remove bay leaves.

    Add vegetables; cover and cook 30 minutes or until done.
