Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 3 to 4 lb. lean stew beef
  • 1 Tbsp. salt (scant)
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/4 c. water
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 c. (or more) chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. (or more) chopped green pepper
  • 4 or 5 medium potatoes, quartered
  • 4 carrots, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 c. chopped celery

    Brown the flour in oil to make a smooth paste.

    Add meat, salt and pepper.

    Stir until meat is coated with paste.

    Add water and tomato sauce; mix well.

    Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours (or until tender).

    Add vegetables and cook until tender.
