Beef Upside Down Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. celery salt
  • 1/4 tsp. white pepper
  • 5 Tbsp. shortening
  • 3/4 c. milk or half milk and half water
  • 1/4 c. sliced onion
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1/2 lb. ground raw beef

Directions

    Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, paprika, celery salt and pepper; add 3 tablespoons shortening and mix thoroughly with fork.

    Add milk and stir until blended.

    Melt remaining 2 tablespoons shortening in 9-inch frying pan and cook onion until soft.

    Add tomato soup, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and ground meat.

    Bring to boil.

    Spread baking powder mixture on top of meat mixture and bake in hot oven at 475° for about 20 minutes.

    Turn out upside down on large plate.
