Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. uncooked rice
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. tomato paste

Directions

    In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, green pepper and garlic until the meat is browned; drain.

    Stir in the next 8 ingredients, except tomato paste.

    Bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender. Stir in tomato paste and heat through.

    Serve with French bread. Serves 4 to 6.
