- 2 c. self-rising flour
- 1/8 tsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
Directions

1Combine first 3 ingredients in large bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry blender until shortening is the size of peas.

2Add buttermilk, stirring with fork until dry ingredients are moistened. (Dough will resemble cottage cheese and be sticky.)

3Turn dough out onto a heavily-floured surface and knead lightly 4 or 5 times. Roll dough to 3/4 inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2 inch round cutter.

4Place on lightly-greased baking sheet.

5Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.

6Brush with butter.
