- 2 c. flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2/3 c. milk
Directions

1Stir thoroughly the first 5 ingredients.

2Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Make a well in center; add milk all at once.

4Stir just until dough clings together.

5Knead gently on lightly floured surface, 10 to 12 strokes.

6Roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Dip 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter in flour; cut dough straight down.

7Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.

8Brush with melted butter.

9Yields 12 biscuits.
