  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. each: cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and allspice
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. blackberries

Directions

    Sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and allspice.

    Cream sugar, shortening and eggs.

    Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture; alternate with buttermilk into which soda has been stirred; mix well.

    Add by hand, blackberries with small amount of juice from berries.

    Bake in tube pan for 1 1/2 hours at 325°.

    Ice with 7 minute icing.
